Dr. Martin Jacobs Executive Director |
Jacobs brings a wealth of experience to the NTC, including nine years as technical director for the Velcro Group Corporation and 21 years with Uniroyal, Inc., including eight years as vice president for R&D for Naugahyde® coated fabrics. Jacobs is past chairman of the Board of Trustees of TRI/Princeton and remains a member of their board and executive committee. In addition to a Ph.D. in polymer chemistry from Princeton University, he also has a B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He has 18 patents.
Dr. Cunning served as NTC's first director from 1992 - 2003.
Energy and vision capture the essence of Dr. Cunning's career and his commitment to exploratory, long-range fiber research. In 1991, he formed Cunning & Associates, Ltd. a consulting firm serving the textile R&D community. He is in demand as an industry consultant and speaker. As Director of the NTC, he has been instrumental in helping the member universities build a strong academic research base. He has been a leader in the development of the industry's new partnership with the United States national defense and energy laboratories called The AMTEX Partnership.
Known for his knowledge of fiber research and manufacturing, he had a highly successful career spanning 28 years with DuPont. At DuPont, Dr. Cunning headed the Pioneering Research Laboratory in Wilmington Delaware. His DuPont manufacturing experience included worldwide responsibility for non-woven products, as well as polyester filament and staple fibers.

Thomas P. Doherty, Technical Consultant and Technical Editor for the National Textile Center, joined Cunning & Associates, Ltd. in 1993 after a 26-year career in fibers and technology forecasting at DuPont. He earned a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Illinois in 1967 and an A.B. in chemistry in 1962 from the University of Omaha. Tom is also a professional genealogist, historian and futurist specializing in tailored presentations, technological and social trend forecasting, strategic planning and futures research. Rhonda is president of Rhonda Shin and Company, Inc., a communications services company in Wilmington DE, specializing in the design and planning of corporate meetings and events. Her company has been a leader in putting together virtual organizations to solve client's problems. Rhonda graduated with a degree in commercial art from the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 1979 and is also Communications and Forum Director for the National Textile Center. Phoebe, Printed Publications Coordinator for the National Textile Center, joined NTC in 1996. She received a Doctor of Chiropractic in 1994 from Pennsylvania College of Chiropractic and CCSP) Sports Physician) postdoc in 1996 and is licensed to practice in PA and DE. Phoebe earned a B.A. in biology and teaching certification from Univ. of Delaware in 1966 then joined DuPont as an inhalation toxicologist and then a technical information analyst managing information search centers. Cindy, Electronic Media Specialist for the National Textile Center, joined NTC in 1997. She has her own business, Albright Computing which is a web hosting firm. She also is experienced in desktop publishing and has been a computer trainer for 13 years, working for Online Consulting and Delaware educational institutions.
